About Prophecies
Earlier this lunar year, I wrote something about prophecies (allright, it was initially about traveling anyway). There were 2 predictions and those are quite scare me off. Not because the predictions were bad, but because they are going to be true!
First, there’s a good chance I’ll travel more than I planned. Since January I’ve been traveling more than I used to be in 2008 and 2007, either for business or leisure. My schedule next week have been packed with itineraries and it seems that there will be more traveling for the next few months. I am quite happy with this because I enjoy traveling and it seems those trips are beneficial for my career and personal life.
Second, someone powerful will take my under his/her wing. I am moving to another Bank and this month will be my last working day with my current employer. My future (and past) boss, who I know and quite close with, asked me to help her in her new directorship role there. With many personal considerations, I accepted her offer.
However, I feel bad as the prophecies are beginning to materialize. Not because they are saying the good things about me, but because I put more attention to the prophecies, not to the life and work which I am living on. In fact – after contemplating – those are the return of things which I did in the past and my future will depend on what I do in present time. Not to mention reasons related to my faith.
So I am starting to ignore the prophecies. It’s good to hear good things about myself, but I’ll take it lightly going forward.
I just read the Book of Ecclesiastes and it says
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Why do most of us still believe in prophecies/astrology?

Why do we believe in astrology or prophecies ?
Because we need the certainty, just as simple as that.
Our live is full of uncertainty and to be able for us to be certain, we need “something” that we can hold on.
Some may say that you can hold on God, but God also is part of uncertainty, because we don’t know the answer.
The only thing that certain, or at least 75 % certain is the astrology/the prophecies.
So .. why don’t we hold that ?
…To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven .. it’s Destiny
BTW, congratulations Boy …
Is destiny also a certainty?
Btw, thanks Jui
“Why do we believe in astrology or prophecies ?”
well, 2 perak gw:
because most of us would like to think that this life is meaningful. padahal, for that simple premise we have no real ground.
it’s human nature to impose meaning on every single act. we tend to interpret coincidences as divine providence. we see what we want to see. and in that process of interpretation, we unintentionally (sometimes intentionally) shun away what might have been the truth. the truth might be that these ‘prophecies’ are nothing more than ‘self-fulfilling prophecies’.
i’m glad you’re not taking them too seriously.
I was taking it seriously.
But when those were becoming true, I was starting to have faith on it; forgetting the facts that the those were my seeds. I was losing the reality that life is actually more meaningful and exciting when you don’t know EXACTLY your future and you just do your best in everything you do and stick to your beliefs (not necessarily the religion).
It is actually more exciting to take the prophecies lightly and to take it seriously
Sepert ikut pemilu, terima uangnya, tapi belum tentu pilih calonnya hehe…
It is actually more exciting to take the prophecies lightly and to take it seriously
–> maksudnya, rather than to take it seriously
agreed
If you already know what lies ahead, you won’t learn anything from your experience – whatever they might be; challenges, struggles, changes, etc.
What most people don’t get is that living is a learning process – it stops once you die. It’s not about the success, the money, the power nor the position. It’s about whether or not you’ve learnt something from the life God has given to you.
We believe in things like that cos it gives us hope. When things are bad, we need something to hang on to. And sometimes astrological prophecies provides just that.
It’s more psychological and it’s not all bad. Just think of a life without hope, that’s what’s bad.
TAAHHHAAAANNNNN!!!!!!
Therry:
And when we die, what happened with “what we have learned”?
Rima:
Agree, life without hope is very baad
HKR:
pedep..:)
When we die, God would ask what we did with all the talents that were bestowed upon us, and all the opportunities that were given to us to use those talents, and living lives as a learning process enabled us to give the answer to that question.
makin lama makin berat diskusinya
And when we died, all that we learned from our past life will be usefull in our next life, a.k.a future life.
The future where we tried to reduce our weaknesses we had in our past life
Destiny is the end of uncertainty
